Trakai District Municipality is located in south-eastern Lithuania, in Vilnius County. The area of the district is 1208 sq. km. The population of the district is more than 37 000 inhabitants. The centre is Trakai (about 5,500 inhabitants). There are 8 elderships in the territory of the municipality: Trakai, Lentvaris, Onuškis, Rūdiškės, Grendavė, Paluknis, Senieji Trakai, Aukštadvaris.
The current Mayor of the District Municipality is Andrius Šatevičius, the vice-mayors are Jonas Kietavičius and Jolanta Abucevičienė.
The Director of Administration is Dovilė Daudaitė, the Deputy Director of Administration is Romuald Zviagin.
